I love Souls games. Admittedly, I got on the train a little late: I’ve never played Demon’s Souls and I have Dark Souls II and III queued up, ready to go. When Dark Souls was released for PC, I gave it a try, finding it horribly unwieldy with PC controls, and giving up after being killed by skeletons at the first bonfire five or six times, but once I used a controller, things got better. I also absolutely adore Bloodborne.

E3 is the gamer version of Super Bowl commercials, except better, because the products are what the audience actually wants to see. I’ve tried very hard to remove politics from CSG, as I want to cover games. Every single time a console holder becomes the top dog, they also become disdainful of their fans. They lean on their past and current success, then try to maximize profits by utilizing unsustainable business practices, instead of pleasing gamers and third parties. This is why Nintendo had such a terrible reputation for decades. It’s why Sony’s expectation of PS3 dominance got BTFO by XB360 and Wii. It’s why the Wii U failed so miserably. It’s why the XBOX will possibly be Microsoft’s last console. It’s as inevitable as the tides: When a company becomes too successful, it stops playing by the rules of good sense and gets smacked down. Nintendo brought a slew of fan favorites to the table this E3, with some exciting new installments for series such as Metroid Prime, Pokemon, Yoshi, Kirby, and of course Super Mario Odyssey, which is slated for release October 27, 2017. While some announcements, like Pokemon and Metroid Prime 4, were light on actual content, the mere mention of those particular titles was enough to get people talking, pushing sales, and making Nintendo’s newest console even harder to find. After Sony started their conference by showing two commercials and then letting Shawn Layden do his dragging speech — they could only go up from there. And they did. Sony impressed during their conference. While Xbox went the route of showing basically every game you’ll be able to play over the next year or two, Sony took the traditional path and showed their top games.
