With the fall of NeoGAF, one can only hope that gamer culture really is a microcosm of the world’s politics, as game journalists would have us believe. Surely I can’t be the only one that remembers how they constantly told us gamers were dead, while simultaneously colluding with Russia to alter the 2016 US presidential election, and being the prototype for the recruitment of the Alt-Right’s online Nazi reserves? I know you remember, because it’s still going on today.
However, weathering those malicious assaults is something gamers do best. We forge ourselves in the pixelated flames of war, training relentlessly to do only one thing: Win. Judging by how popular gaming has become, and how those who constantly insult and suppress gamers find themselves wrapped in controversy due to their long buried skeletons rising from the depths, I’d say we’re pretty f*%king good at winning.
So as our world sits in a dark period, with refugees fleeing sh^t hole nations, the struggle of Western values vs Communism and Islam’s codes, disasters rocking entire countries, assholes murdering people without cause, literal Nazis walking the streets, ironically un-ironic Antifa fascists seeking to divide the US, one of the last bastions of sanity in a PC-crazy world that allows millennial parents to sterilize their toddlers, so they can jump on board the trendy trans-train attention party, let us hope gamer culture is the microcosm.
You see, NeoGAF was the prototype for the world order the radical Left and Alt-Right wants:
1) No freedom of speech for dissenters.
2) Immediate action against level-headed politely presented thoughts or beliefs that don’t align with those of the administration.
3) Acceptance and silence in the face of horrible acts the administration deems okay.
As soon as the administrators of NeoGAF disappeared, the members began to speak out. They were only silenced by the fear of being ostracized from the group via banning. They stayed silent for years despite knowing that Tyler Malka was a piece of sh^t, and even lavished praise on him for being one of the “good guys,” even though they were all complicit in covering up his sexual grievances of the past. It’s a great, modern example of how terrifyingly easy it is to use social pressures and fear of being excommunicated to keep cowards in line in the face of truly disgusting acts.
This is just on the level of a gaming forum, imagine how truly awful this could be at the government level?
It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grammes a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be REDUCED to twenty grammes a week. — 1984
Fortunately, the fall of NeoGAF should highlight how quickly such a regime can be toppled through the actions of a few brave people, none of which were on NeoGAF, naming names. Hopefully this is a great victory for freedom of speech in gaming, and thus the precursor for such a change sweeping the rest of the world. Watching sanity reclaim many gaffers after the regime’s fall can only bode well for its campaign against radical feminism, Antifa, the Alt-Right, and people still bitching about Bernie vs. Hillary vs. Trump.
Gamer culture is the microcosm, it has to be, for the sake of sanity.
