The worst kept secret of E3 was the opening act for Ubisoft’s E3 2017 conference: Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. Even the legendary Shigeru Miyamoto showed up, wielding Mario’s blaster from the game. To the shock of many, it actually looked really good in action, both visually and mechanically. The Rabbids have been cast into the Mushroom Kingdom, and now the two dimensions are intermingling in a catastrophic way. It’s up to Mario and friends to solve the mystery and set things right. The environments looked spectacular as the player maneuvered their team around the map by guiding them with a glorified roomba, but upon entering a battle area, the game essentially turns into X-com X Mario.
It looks like a rock-solid, turn-based strategy game. The humor will be hit or miss depending on how you feel about the Rabbids, or Universal’s Minions for those not familiar with the Ubisoft C-list mascots, but it’s not as bad as many on the internet expected (looking at you neogaf).
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle releases for Nintendo Switch on August 29, 2017.
Personally, I was taken aback by how good the game looked, how about you? Are you now more or less interested in the game than before Ubisoft’s official reveal? Sound off in the comments section below.
