The 90’s gaming “legend” Bubsy the Bobcat is set to return in the fall of 2017. No you didn’t read that wrong. Black Forest Games, the studio behind Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams, and publisher Accolade have announced a new Busby title for the first time since 1997’s Bubsy 3D, which released on the original PlayStation.
The upcoming game follows Bubsy’s quest to obtain the ‘beloved Golden Fleece’ and will be a side-scrolling platformer. The quick-witted bobcat will now have over 100 extra one-liners available, much more than in his previous forays on the SNES, Genesis, Jaguar, and PS1.
This announcement follows a trend of 90’s platformers being revitalized in the last few years, with Crash N-Sane trilogy and Yooka-Laylee trying to capitalize on the 90’s nostalgia trend. The results are fairly hit or miss thus far, so who knows how this one will turn out?
Alongside an ‘Interview’ with Gematsu, screenshots and a trailer were released, announcing that the game will be released on PS4 and Steam.
Are you excited to be playing as the one-liner spewing Bobcat once more? What other 90”s mascot character would you like to see revitalized? Let us know in the comments below.
