Sonic Mania is the return to 2D pixelated glory that classic Sonic fans have been wanting for decades. Long time fan turned programmer Christian “Taxman” Whitehead, Headcannon, and PagodaWest Games have been given the reins in order to do what Sega couldn’t with Sonic 4: Bring classic Sonic to life in the modern day.
The Sonic Mania Pre-order Trailer shows off some great animation that fans will find very reminiscent of Sonic CD’s animated segments. It’s a loving throwback that could thaw the hearts of even the most jaded Sonic fan. In between the animated bookends we get to see a good looking bit of footage from the remastered classic and brand new stages.
The trailer is virtually perfect in every aspect, and it even ends with a confirmation of the recently leaked August 15, 2017 release date. Digital pre-orders are now available on all platforms: PS4, XB1, PC and Nintendo Switch.
What platform are you getting Sonic Mania on? Personally, I think you have to go with the Nintendo Switch. The game is a throwback to classic 16-bit Sonic, so you know it’s going to have a small file size, and the pick up and play nature is only enhanced by the portability factor that makes the Nintendo Switch so enticing.
