A trailer unveiled earlier this morning by Square Enix showed off footage from their new addition to the Kingdom Hearts series. As a celebration of the games 15th anniversary, Square Enix has announced the release of Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix for next March. A compilation of six remastered titles from the series for the PS4. Meaning that fans of the series can relive everything from the very beginning before they play the long-awaited Kingdom Hearts 3 – whenever they get around to actually releasing it.
Released exactly 15 years after the first game hit the PS2 in 2002, this will be the 14th game in the series. Assuming, of course, one counts the previous times that the first two games have been remade and re-released.
The upgraded 1.5 + 2.5 Remix will contain the “Final Mix” of Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts 2, and Birth by Sleep, and the now included Re:Chain of Memories, 358/2 Days and Re:coded. This will follow the Jan 27, 2017 release of Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue HD which will contain Dream Drop Distance, χ Back Cover and the new adventure 0.2: Birth by Sleep. Meaning that fans of the series will now have nearly every Kingdom Hearts game ever made available on the one console.
Hashimoto and Nomura weren’t kidding about Square Enix wanting to sell PS4’s and giving gamers a reason to buy it. 2017 seems shaped up to be the year of Kingdom Hearts.
